J's Chimes: Presentation Now...

Today's finally the day for our presentation on the Otaku Culture in school and I seriously can't wait for it to come and be over with it asap. After many days of preparation, heated battles and work, the day has finally arrived. Hopefully it goes smoothly for the presentation so that we can rest easy and blog once again...

J's Chimes: Mothership Rush!

One of the most stunning matches ever for the PC game Starcraft 2. Basically because nobody has done this before up till now. With the final match and money on the line, someone actually has the guts to pull of this trick to kill its opponent. Perhaps I'd need to brush up my skills now...

J's Chimes: You Need Professional Help!

Try filling up these words as fast as you can so we'll know how fast you are... But wait! Does this looks a bit suspicious? With that, either one of the words I believed that you would think of relates to something sexy and adult themed... In truth, the answers are as per follows instead of what you would think it is:

1.) Books
2.) Random
3.) Pants
4.) Fork
5.) Pulse
6.) Six

Have you fill in the blanks correctly or just the opposite? If so... You need professional help...

J's Chimes: QR Code

At first, I too didn't know what this little square box represents as it appears on posters, newspapers and magazines all the time. And am pretty sure many people in Singapore do not really know what it it too and the purpose of its existence. QR (Quick Response) Code is a matrix barcode which can be scan by taking a photo from your cellphone camera to quick load into the company's website. I do not know if all cellphones are applicable though or whether it requires a service as per provided by your mobile plans. But sometimes one has to wonder... Won't it be quicker to just give you the website address rather than giving you the hassle of taking a photo and praying to see what this is about?

J's Chimes: 2D Pictures Comes Alive

Stumbled on this amazing blog where 2D drawings on paper came to live in 3D. You can view some of the photos by clicking here. What's amazing about this is that the artist is able to blend in the artworks into the environment. Seriously an amazing feat with praises of creativity and skill. Hmm... perhaps I should try doing that too...

J's Chimes: Why Anime?

A lot of people asked me this question... Why anime? So folks out there just don't understand a thing or two about animes and they go all stereotyping that anime fans are naive people and pretty much weird in many ways. Firstly, animes are definitely not in any association with cartoons for kids for that matter. Animes are meant also for the adult groups because animes have greater depth and storyline, together with their style and presentation, which makes it different from cartoons. There are many reasons why anime is so interesting and popular. Perhaps many of you didn't notice at all so here's a gist of it.

1. Animes are works of art drawn painstakenly by people. Thus we admired their works and love watching it.

2. Animes often link to singing idols and actors. Such could be seen clearly from Macross frontier whereby the characters are seemingly similar to seiyuus in real life.

3. Animes bring out the unique culture of Japan. For example occasional products popping up, living in Japan, traditions, etc which is interesting for people who likes Japan.

4. Animes can give certain angles of viewing that are not possible or applicable in live action dramas, shows and to movies unless you'd use CG and stuff...which comes to the point of animation again.

5. Animes often takes place in a fantasy world which brings about unique things into the storyline not possible in real life. It is this creativity, dream and such that's interesting. Think Lord Of The Rings as an example. Reality shows don't give you that kinda excitement.

6. Animes captures you emotionally, your feelings and such because the character's facial expression tells a lot of tales. Unlike in real life where people may not express such feelings.

7. Animes have the biggest influence in the market. From daily necessities to food products and music CDs, anime has penetrated a lot in the market in which you'd failed to notice unless you don't like it.

8. Animes is what encourages game development even till today... Don't believe it? Why not take a look around at Japanese made games for a change?

9. Animes create live action shows too? Watched Meteor Garden? Death Note? They are from animes too... So why are people complaining animes are bad when they themselves watch the live action too which originates from anime?

10. Animes gives hope... yep, gotta agree with it cause many anime fans don't really have a relationship. Thus, the only companion now is anime which makes them happy...

11. Animes are becoming popular soon as the trend with our younger generations tend to watch them a lot now... This so expalins why there are more anime cafes popping out in Singapore...

12. Animes can be exaggerated with lots of things impossible for live action. For example Strike Witches flying with just turbine attachments on the leg.

13. Animes can have crazy stunts and feat normally impossible in real life. Snegoku Basara is one example.

There are actually 101 reasons why animes are good but that will basically do for now given the fact that these 10 reasons about just explains why animes are worth to watch. For those who are still stereotyping and such, it's time to change your perception of things and look at it in a different perspective...

J's Chimes: Season's Best Opening

Once again we look into this season's best anime themes songs. Of course, this is to my preference only and you might disagree with me in a way. However, Asobi Ni Iku Yo! seems to caught my attention with its seemingly wonder opening song together with the animations that complement it (Love the underwater beginning which makes it look rather surreal)

This anime is similar to animes like To Love Ru and Kemeko DX except for the Nekomimi ears which makes Eris looks a lot like Horo from Spice and Wolf. Well in any case, a nice anime to watch this season. (yes... am aware that this clip is mirrored... but it's the only HD in Youtube...)

One of my favorite romantic animes this season. Except that it really isn't a complete story as it ends with how the protagonist got each and every girl in the anime, just like the ADV game on PS2. In short, it's rather vague and fast but somehow nice to watch...

One of the animes I am so looking forward into and impresses me the most with its stunning graphics. Not to mention the mixture of sexiness and horrifying apocalyptic moments that will surely keep you at the edge of your sits.

I just dunno why but the catchy phase in front just get me hooked to this. The animations for the opening theme is pretty good too though I gotta admit. Anyway, this anime is just so similar to Seitokai Ichizon and Suzumiya Haruhi... Perhaps the trend is coming?

At first this is just mediocre for me, but as I continue to watch this anime. Eventually the song hits my mind (Especially so when you do not skip the opening theme for the anime...) Anway, this opening do has a nice touch to it and so does the storyline...

Some other openings includes Sekirei, Sengoku Basara, Strike Witches, The Legend Of The Legendary Heroes, Okami-san And Seven Companions to Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin. You can watch them at YouTube if you're interested....

J's Chimes: The differences between 2D and 3D girls

It is seriously interesting the way people made comparisons between getting a real girl and one that is in your computer... However it does have a point or so because it is just so true in a way or another lol. Of course the fact in reality is that everyone would want to have a real life girlfriend for a companion but reality can be a little harsh at times because of how you were born... Basically I believe that a guy needs to have either of these in order to get girls
And they are:

1. Money (The root of all evils. Any girl would fall for you if you are filthy rich. Who wouldn't want to live a life of luxury?)

2. Good-looking/handsome (Despite saying that the heart is what's important, people still look and quickly ranks you on how you look...reality is like that)

3. Strong/Muscular (Some girls just like hunks and strong guys because they feel a sense of security and dependability.)

4. Charismatic (If you are someone who easily mix around, approachable, fun to be with and such. Most girls will feel your charm.)

5. Special Talents (Be it bar tricks or magic, etc, or some other interesting things that may impress the girls)

You score if you do have either one these qualities. But not many people have it thus are one of the major reasons why eroges are popular... Agree?

A little comparison brings an unexpected result which is seemingly surprising to look at. (Click picture for bigger view) Otakus rejoice, cause having a 2D girlfriend doesn't burn your wallets as much as having a real one. However the case, one will still need to move on to their next phase in life of getting a real companion to spend with. Then again, such still boils down to one thing... MONEY!

J's Chimes: Love Dolls (Part 2)

Love dolls can be made as real as a real being and some could even be made to look like those wax models in a museum. (Of course those would cost a lot more...) In any case, a Love doll can be price as much as SGD$5k - $10k depending on what you are looking for. And I do believe it would be hard to have it delivered to Singapore lol. What they actually did is packaged a completed doll and wrapped it up with Styrofoam, paper just like what you would normally see when ya opened up a box with your large electrical appliances from computers to TVs and such.

(Warning! Video contains obscene materials not suited for the young. Please refrain from watching if you are under the age limit in your country)

Here's another video to show you what's like to really be emotionally attach to these dolls. Most of us would find this rather disturbing but reality does hurt at times. Out of desperation, some people may choose to have such a hobby to avoid the stresses of everyday life... But to spend so much money on it is just shocking...

J's Chimes: Love Dolls (Part 1)

Love Dolls or preferably known as Candy Girls in Japan, are actually life size dolls created for male adults to satisfy their sexual intend. However, some people have become emotional attach to those that they treat them as a life partner that will accompany them at home. Not only that they look real, but they feels 'real' too because they are make of some special vinyl material for the body to make it as realistic as possible...

(Warning! Video contains obscene materials not suited for the young. Please refrain from watching if you are under the age limit in your country)

A little video of how the dolls are like can be seen in this video showcasing the dolls in a shop as the narrator visits one and learn more about what Candy Girls really are. A short tour inside the factory shows how the dolls are somehow made... Stay tuned for the second post about these love dolls...

J's Chimes: An Anime That Might Hurt International Peace...

The ever so political anime 'Reform Without Wasted Draws - The Legend Of Koizumi' is back again to hurt international peace treaties and send criticism is bac again with a new episode. Having battle it out between Japan and North Korea with a mahjong sesssion, Koizumi is back to get another 'rising dragon' mahjong tiles to beat a new opponent...This time, with the Chinese...

Somehow the presidents and governments are here once again to negotiate peace treaties with a game of mahjong... And then out of a sudden, a parody of Mao Zedong appeared in the anime... (I wonder will this anime be condemned and such due to such an outrageous anime airing so freely on tv...) No one is ever sure will this anime be sued by officials if they were to be distributed freely...

And finally, a clear image of a Bishop from Rome can be seen at the end of the anime... Guess mahjong has taken a drastic turn all the way to Europe... Even scenes in the white house came into attention which probably sparked gossips around... Perhaps this anime has gone a bit far?

J's Chimes: Fake Fansub Circulation

A fake fansub of the anime Seikimatsu Occult Gakuin has been circulating around a few days back in an attempt to tarnish the fansubbers known as SubDesu. Somehow, this individual spends his free time subbing profanities for this anime... And I must say, it is done rather well with the timings, nevertheless not for a good cause.

Fansubber SubDesu is aware of it and has poste notices on their blog to warn people of this fake sub that has been getting attention around. I guess this individual thinks such prank is worth the laughter but somehow, look who has the second laugh by reading the comments posted by furious fans who condole this kinda act...

After much consideration, J's Chimes will be closing down the other sections as they will no longer be updated anytime soon. Thus it would be best to fully concentrate on the main website instead. However, we will be considering adding new sections in the Archive Tags and revamping the entire website once again. So whatever the case, update your bookmarks to the main page to stay tune to J's Chimes for the days ahead...

J's Chimes: Creative Marketing Ideas

So you like Tony Taka's Artwork and masterpieces? Somehow his artwork lands into the adult industry and now becomes a product cover for condoms? Hmmm... knowing how otakus are mostly singles, it's hard to imagine selling such things to them... Perhaps for those who has a Candy Doll? Or maybe for keep sake because of the beautiful artwork printed on the box... Well whatever it is condom doesn't come cheap and I certainly don't find it amusing keeping one as part of your collection in your own room... Not to mention displaying it...

J's Chimes: Check Your Models!

Scale models and Gashapons looks great when displayed on your cabinets but how long have you been neglecting it for checking? Was doing a check on my scale models and realised that some of the colours began to fade away. The problematic ones are those in which an oily and greasy substance tends to surface on the models, making it sticky and shiny... Have no choice but to use a wet cloth to clean it off to get rid of the greasy. This is especially so because PVCs are made of plastic that melts under normal room temperature after a few months.

Sometimes, a layer of dirt will also start to stain the models o it is also wise to clean it off as it will dull the colours of the scale models. Though it is not really recommended to use water for washing, sometimes its necessary to use a wet cloth to clean the dirt off the models as the paint really doesn't come off that easily unless you scrub it real hard... In any case if you are really neglecting your models for quite sometime, be sure to check them now to avoid heartbreaks in future... Remember to check those in boxes too as they weren't spare either...

J's Chimes: Tekken Live Action

It seems that Hollywood has done it again by ripping off a game known as Tekken to become the next 'best' thing in Live Action movies. Similar to the previous Dragonball Live Action that has gain much criticism due to its ripped off theme with an American setting, Tekken will no doubt follow the footsteps of this with characters who seemingly does not match with the actual game... Or perhaps even worse with its storyline that doesn't seem to make sense. Coming out sometime this year, a video is as shown below.

Though you might say the special effects are great, the fights aren't... You could easily see from the trailer that the punches are weak and so forth... It just doesn't feel right for a setting like this which is so much similar to the DOA Live Action movie. But who knows? Let's save the thoughts for after the movie starts and then judge it then...

J's Chimes:The Evolution Of Eroge

Eroge has evolved throughout the years and has become another popular genre of games that tend to awe people alike. And with the introduction of 3D graphics, eroge has evolve even further until as we know it today and an example of such a high end eroge is the famous Real Kanojo create by the Illusion Soft company. However, classic eroge games are just as nice as it does has its own uniqueness and art form in the past...

Retro eroges are much more pixelated as to compared with eroges today because of its resolution and processing power of older computers. However such art has captured many audiences around because of their nice storyline or artwork that keeps them from coming back for more and thus the eroge boom as you've seen till today in Japan.

I remembered the time when eroges are saved on diskettes and sold in the market long ago and the game graphics are of 8 - 16 bit, resulting in serious pixel artwork such as this. If you still have your classic Nintendo game console, it'll be something like this... Amazingly at that time it was considered very good for an eroge to be like this...

Eroges are normally ADV/AVG (Adventure games) at that time with lots of visual novels and selecting different options and routes to end the storyline. However, the genres broaden up to many different types including RPG, SLG, simulation, etc. Some examples of RPG games are Tears To Tiara, SLG games include Tsuma Shibori and the common simulation games for example Sexy Beach to Artificial Girl.

The technology in eroges advances dramatically with better computers and graphics. And has eventually evolved to what we would see till this date. Eroge has fast becoming a big industry in the gaming sector because of its popularity. However, such games are sold for Japan use only but has eventually reach many countries worldwide because of their popularity... And soon it brought about critics about this types of games being sold in the market. The very case of Rapelay is one example of a game that is brought under scrutiny because of its immoral content that said to harm people's conscious with themes that are considered taboo and ostracize by other countries...

The eroge industry continues to boom as we currently would see today. With more 3D games and high resolution ADV games coming up, its no wonder fans keep coming back for more of such stuff... Seriously, I too believe eroges are becoming better... I especially like Alicesoft, Eushully and Softhouse Chara games because of their high replayability as they concentrated more on SLG, RPG style kinda games. Some popular ones include Rance, Battle Goddess and Ou Zoku. But when it comes to 3D games, Illusion Soft takes the biggest vote among the others. What lies ahead with the eroge industry is still rather vague but with the advancement of motion sensors, to cameras and touch screen monitors and sensor mats like the Xbox360, a new era of eroge playability will soon be available for fans out there to experience the power of such games in future...

J's Chimes: Yooo! To Boku

(Do not watch if you are offended by adult themes and languages. Not especially when your parents are around!)
This video is just too funny to not share it with you despite already having lots of videos posts lately. However, there is explicit adult theme with censorships and foul languages involved so please be cautioned when watching this. In any case, the response made by the narrator is so funny that I laugh real hard about how he express his thoughts towards BL (Boys Love), Cross-dressing, futanari, etc... you can't get bored of this. Literally...

J's Chimes: Introduction Video

Here's a little sneak preview of an introduction video for my upcoming presentation about Otaku Culture. Taken from various sources in order to depicts and let our audiences know a bit about what it actually is. Hope you'd enjoy this as much as I do in the making... Perhaps this should be used for J's Chimes too?

J's Chimes: Acerola With Miku

One of the weirdest parody featuring Hatsune Miku in many different forms for the Acerola Vitamin drink commercial in Japan. Wonder why is a robot deemed to look like Miku. Guess a fan made this and looks interesting enough not to pass...

J's Chimes: The Periodic Table

Some fans decided to merge Japanese anime with Science using the periodic table that we often use in our chemistry classes (Click on the picture for a bigger view of it). Find this rather interesting because the names of each chemicals in the table actually coincides with the anime characters replaced on it. For example 'H' for Haruhi (Hydrogen) or 'Ra' for Rei Ayanami (Radium). Look through and see whether you'd recognise the anime characters in the table... And ya can even compare it with the 'real' periodic table of elements below...

(Science is amazing in the anime way with an anime twist...)

J's Chimes: Presenting Otaku Culture

Something amazing happen which took us by storm in my final semester. It seems that one of my modules required us to make a presentation about anything we wanted to. One of my friends suggested that we'd introduce the Otaku Culture for our presentation. Was in favor with the suggestions cause I'd actually knew a lot about such being somewhat an Otaku myself. It is the most interesting assignment that I would hardly wait to start thinking and scripting our presentation. I guess it is really a given because there's really a lot of things to share and talk about in regards to our hobby. Makes my day and lots of motivation to do this assignment... Hopefully would be able to come up with something that could awe the audiences...

J's Chimes: Public Cosplaying...

A seemingly unusual sight for Gin to purchase something at a local supermarket... However due to the fact it is known that there's a cosplay event in the shopping center, much of the people knew that there would be cosplayers around to serve. Which comes to the point that would you as a cosplayer dress up and walk around town in a normal day? Other than the glaring eyes, some people would be surprised or excited to see something weird in places they'd never thought of. An example would be this hilarious video below...

It sure makes my day having to watch this video over and over...Perhaps we should try this in Singapore and post it up in Youtube for many to see? Then it would be the first...

J's Chimes: Coming Big Events...

A few big events coming up in these few days time and a large influx of people will be gathering in Singapore for these events coming up soon. The National Day is 2 days away from now and be held near the Padang at City Hall. Guess traffic would be heavy and congested during these days... Soon after would be the Youth Olympics coming up a few days later. Not really a sports fan myself so life still goes on then... The F1 racing will soon appear once again this September too so expect more tourism in the area too... It's gonna get busy soon so gonna grab my camera and go for some photo shooting...

J's Chimes: Milk Is Good For You

Wow... If milk's really that good, may wanna drink more of it too... Some of the wonders of Japanese exaggerated advertisements that will surely grab your attention in any ways possible. Now why really is it that Singapore doesn't really adopt much of this advertisements for the products. Does it lead to deception and such that it is plain ridiculous to air something like this or perhaps some other reasons? In any case, gonna buy some milk and drink up too... lol.

J's Chimes: OMG! (One Manga is Gone!)

With the war on Scanlations, there's bound to be causalities involved and the very first goes to the popular free manga website known as Onemanga. As as now companies are taking seriously on licensing laws and such, websites are now closing down one at a time and who knows which the the next victim coming up. Other than that, popular series like Bleach and Naruto are now protected by copyright infringement laws so none can now be distributed for fans to continue reading the exciting parts coming soon... Whether it is a good thing or not no one is ever sure at the moment and so maybe it's back to the bookshops again...? Pertaining to this, J's Chimes will also be closing down the manga link sections as those links are already dead because of such turn of events. Anyway, let's just see what happens next...

J's Chimes: Adult Toys With An Anime Twist...

What better way to attract anime fans to buy anime related 'health' products featuring girls who look mysteriously similar to the anime K-On!... (Except with a title that reads Band Girls...) These adult products seriously gives me the creeps and all eyes will be on you if you'd intend to purchase it in a store or something... What's also amazing is the price tag for the product which is 1200yen = SGD$18... What's even more surprising is the creative way they present or advertise the product. Though we might all love animes, probably won't go that far to entertain your wee wee with...

J's Chimes: Itasha PSPs

Yup. You've seen it done on phones, Ipads, laptops and even the Iphones... But has you really seen one done on your favourite handheld game such as the PSP? Guess someone came up with the idea of pimping their PSPs with some cute anime characters and somehow it turns out great nontheless... This is my personal favourite because it looks so cool and even the screen wallpaper matches the cover.

Forgot what this eroge character is but it certainly looks good at the back of the PSP. Now where would you fond this anywhere in Singapore?

If am certain, PSPs run on Mac OS but some brilliant minds decided to pimp it up with the Windows OS design for the PSP back cover. Reads 'Window Vista Portable'...lol.

Another cool design for Hatsune Miku Fans... Perhaps a much more Chibi version of her? Hmm... Just realised that these are done on the older versions of the PSP...

Another Eroge character in which I forgot again...Looks pretty good in all ways... However I'd prefer a horizon picture instead as you're playing it horizontally and not vertically for the people in front of you to 'appreciate' it.

Lastly, one of the more sophisticated designs for the PSP cover... Too much of a complication does affect the looks of the PSP don't ya think so?

J's Chimes: To Copy Or Not To Copy...

Plagiarism doesn't only happens in our assignments or books and such where references are needed to be put at the back for salutations. Even animes and games are being copied just so to attract people to buy their products. And so you know it doesn't only happens in Singapore, but in other parts of the world as we know it. Such an example would be this so called Korean game that copies the One Piece anime cover but added with a couple of tweaking here and there... Of course this is not such a big deal until you'd see this below....

Yup... Does it looked familiar? Somehow some Suzumiya Haruhi Fan decided to drew a look-a-like picture of her in a book about sports for sale in association with the Beijing Olympics 2008. Was wondering why Japanese animation companies didn't sue them instead for such plagiarism...

J's Chimes: Porn In A Box

It's been awhile since we'd posted weird stuffs in Japan. And now we have a vending machine that sells something really shocking. Yep, pornographic magazines out in the open. Sometimes I'd wonder would it really be weird if you were caught vending from machines like this. Or maybe ya should wait till the coast is clear before inserting coins and choosing the material that you like? Maybe ya should don a mask for that matter. In any case, it is so easily available that kids could get it too with ease... It's even more surprising that such are allowed to be sold without the complaints of the public...
