Mangas have come a long way till what we would see today. However the genres of these mangas evolved throughout the years from the originality of these Mangakas. Some of which you would have read before and are some of the bestsellers around.
1. Osamu Tezuka - Astroboy
2. Akira Toriyama - Dragonball
3. Fujiko F. Fujio - Doraemon
4. Eiichiro Oda - One Piece
5. Takehiko Inoue - Slam Dunk
6. Shigeru Mizuki - Gegege No Kitaro
7.Fujio Akatsuka - Gag Manga King
8. Machiko Hasegawa - Sazae-san
9. Hayao Miyazaki - Nausicaa
10. Naoki Urasawa - 20th Century Boys
Even as we know, some of the mangas have become an anime due to its popularity. However in recent years, such originality is slowly diminishing due to the fact that Mangakas or such talents are getting lesser each time.

i read an article a few yrs back that uncovered the poor working conditions and salary paid to the animators and manga artists are paid a pittance amount per page by the publishers.
it seems to convey a point that the industry was making use of these ppls' passion and love for the medium to get good work done for cheap - so less and less ppl are joining or staying in anime industry... also the game industry is more than happy to snap them up >_>
you end up with outsourcing overseas, where cheaper alternatives are on the rise (due to the popularity of anime in those countries luring their young ppl to try to take up a career in the anime industry)
Yup. Hmm... Wrote a post about that before and you can read it here at http://jsanimesg.blogspot.com/2010/05/js-chimes-shockingtruth-about-animators.html.
sad right? :(
Illustrators and animators are paid even more than that... Well, you can't really blame them because anime companies major goals are to make profits with as cheap labor as possible to produce results...
